Shawn Splivalo was sworn in as Kohler’s Police Chief in August of 2019. He was a longtime resident of the village and father of a Kohler High School graduate and has a vested interest in our unique community. 

He started his law enforcement career in 1995 with the Arizona Department of Corrections. In 2000 he joined the Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Office serving there until his appointment to Kohler Police Chief in 2019. He has been a member of the Sheboygan County SWAT Team, Boat Safety Team, and Dive Team.

He has spent most of his career instructing officers in Threat Assessment, Defense and Arrest Tactics, Vehicle Contacts, Firearms, and Police Cyclist. He has also been teaching officers, first responders, and civilians how to effectively respond to active shooter threats. He is a student of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and teaches Police Jiu-Jitsu to local law enforcement as well as women’s basic self-defense class. He has a hands-on approach to keeping our community strong and protected.

He holds an Associate Degree in Criminal Justice from Lakeshore Technical Collage and is a Wisconsin Certified Public Manager from UW-Madison. He is also a graduate of the Wisconsin Command College and International Association of Chiefs of Police Leadership in Police Organizations.
